While a simple day it is still a new start for Wang Lung and he hosts a feast to celebrate. He is to marry a servant from the big house in his village, one he has not laid eyes on so far, but an apt choice for him given his means and circumstances. At the centre of the story is Wang Lung, a poor but hard-working farmer who we first meet on his wedding day. The Good Earth is the first in a trilogy set in early-20 th-century China. ![]()
